Call Quality Affected!😳 Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2 Firmware Update 1.2.2

This is the first firmware update for the Elite 10 Gen 2. 1.2.2 fixes an issue that I highlighted in my review. Previously, the earbuds didn’t automatically reconnect to my iPhone when I took them out, something which wasn’t a problem with Gen 1. Apparently, this is also the case with Pixel devices. With the update, it reconnects like it should to my iPhone, if it’s the most recently paired device.

But did this firmware also have any effect on its performance such as its sound, noise cancelling and mic pickup? We’re going to find out in this review!

Microphone Test

In terms of mic pickup, there seems to be an improvement in terms of how loud my voice is amplified. On the last firmware, my voice sounded more recessed, which made it harder for the person on the other side to hear me. Now, it should be easier and much clearer.

Active Noise Cancelling

I’m glad to report that its noise cancelling has also not been affected. The samples may sound different between the old and new firmwares, but if you pay attention to the decibel meter, you can see that it cancels just as much noise as before.

Sound Quality

In terms of sound quality, frequency sweeps show no changes to the tuning, except for the furthest reaches of the high frequencies. It seems that the focus there has been shifted towards the more audible 17 kHz spectrum, but the difference is so slight that most people won’t be able to tell, and at most, it’s going to be a smidge more air in the soundstage.

Final Thoughts…

So overall, this firmware didn’t bring any performance changes, but it did fix that connection issue. In fact, kudos to them because they did deliver the fix ahead of time. Rumors were that they were going to roll it out by early 2025. This bodes well because these are Jabra’s last earbuds, and we’re all wondering how long more, and to what extent, Jabra is going to support this product.

That being said, there seems to be a new issue with my unit. Sometimes, when I take them out of the case, only one side is turned on, and I have to manually turn on the other side. This wasn’t happening before. We’ll see if the next firmware will address this issue. Stay tuned for updates!
