2024 KING of Call Quality Earbuds Ranked! 👑 (Budget to Premium)
In this review, we’re going to compare the call quality of almost all the earbuds I’ve tested in the past half year against the ones I consider right now to be the kings of call quality, the Nothing Ear and the OnePlus Buds 3.
Do note that if you don’t find the buds you’re looking for in this comparison, I may have already compared them in previous call quality roundups, which you can watch here, or you can also check out my library for just $1 per month to access my whole samples by becoming a channel member.
This review is going to be explosive because we have earbuds at all price ranges from the very cheap to the most expensive. I’m also including top competitions like the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3, which many consider to be the best for microphone pickup, alongside new contenders like the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, the Pixel Buds Pro 2, and the new Bose QuietComfort earbuds. (Check in the Amazon links below to find out the latest prices of these earbuds.)
All of them will be tested in a very noisy food court environment, and this contest is last man standing. This means the buds will be grouped and compared in alphabetical order, and the winners of each round will proceed to the next until only one is crowned the KING of mic pickup.
Round 1
Group A
In round 1, we start with the AirPods 4 ANC, Bose QC Earbuds, the B&W Pi8, the Creative Zen Air SXFI, and the CMF Buds Pro 2.
The Creative and CMF earbuds have great noise gating, but they also sound very robotic. The Pi8 had great noise gating, but my voice sounded too soft so the person on the line with you probably has to max the volume. The Bose QC Earbuds, for some reason, couldn’t filter the noise from my voice. Otherwise it would have sounded clean. That brings us to the AirPods 4, which has a little less noise gating but I like how my voice sounded the most natural and full. So, my vote goes to the AirPods 4 for this round.

Group B
In the second group for round 1, we have the Earfun Air Pro 4, Huawei Freebuds Pro 3, JBL Live Beam 3 and the Pixel Buds Pro 2.
Out of this group, without a doubt, the Huawei Freebuds Pro 3 had the cleanest voice pickup. It sounds so clean, like I'm speaking in a quiet room, with my voice sounded loud and full. The Earfun Air Pro 4 which is much cheaper, actually performed pretty well too. Though its noise gating is a bit too aggressive but my voice is still legible. The JBL is a little slow to react to noise but noise gates rather well, my voice also sounded full and loud. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 had effective noise gating but residual noise leaks into my voice. So for this group, the Huawei Freebuds Pro 3 proceeds to round 2.

Group C
In the third group, we have the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro, Sennheiser Accentum True Wireless, Sony WF-C150, and the Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro.
The Sennheiser Accentum ranks last in this group because while its noise gating was decent, my voice was too soft. The Sony C510 has decent noise gating and clean voice, but it also has a bit of shine in my voice, which made it sound fatiguing. The Soundcore and Samsung sounded very close. Both sounded like I’m in a quiet room. However, my voice on the Samsung seemed less robotic and I prefer that. So the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro proceeds to round 2.

Round 2
Next, in round 2 we have the AirPods 4 ANC, the Huawei Freebuds Pro 3, and the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro.
Although my voice sounded pretty good on the AirPods 4, unfortunately it didn’t noise gate as well as the others. That leaves the Samsung and the Huaweis. It’s a very close fight, very hard to choose between them, but upon close examination, the Huaweis did sound a little bloated, while the Samsung sounded just a tiny bit choppy. Now, my vote goes to Huawei as I happen to prefer a smoother voice, and thus it proceeds to the final round. But if some of you think the Samsungs sounded just as good, that’s also valid. I just consider it to be a close runner up if we’re cherry picking the little details

Final Round
For the final round, I’m going to compare the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 to the winners of my last comparison, the Nothing Ear and the OnePlus Buds 3. This will decide which of them is the KING of mic pickup.
Both the Nothing Ear and the OnePlus Buds 3 had amazing mic pickup. They had very little to no background noise leakage, and my voice sounds clean and clear. However, they are only ever so close to the mic pickup of the Huawei Freebuds Pro 3 which had the best noise gating, and my voice sounds the most natural among them.
So I crown the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 this year’s King of mic pickup.
An honorable mention goes to the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro, which I really do think it deserves the runner up title. If we look back at the sound samples, I do think the Samsungs are a little cleaner than the Nothing and the OnePlus earbuds.
