Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro vs EVERYTHING ELSE 😲

Hey guys. In my article on the new Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, we checked how these True Wireless earbuds compared to the Galaxy Buds and the Galaxy Buds Pro. But how do they compare to popular earbuds from other brands? In terms of active noise cancelling, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro seems pretty effective and quiet and it's one of the best in its price category and definitely better than anything from Jabra.

Sound Quality

In terms of sound quality, it’s a mixed bag. The Buds 2 Pro does have a brighter sounding bias in the mid-range, but they don’t have as much gravity in the vocals, and it seems that the emphasis here is more on brightness and clarity. In fact, if we look at the chart above, we can see that of these earbuds, only the Buds 2 Pro has a dip in center mids with a spike in the upper mids. Some people will not like that because it might sound colder compared to what they’re used to. But if you like watching videos and movies, this does mean better vocal separation from the rest of the scene compared to the other earbuds. If you’re a basshead, you’re not gonna miss out on much punch, extension and impact in that area. These do have pretty good bass. Also you’re not gonna be disappointed if you need your sound to be clean, detailed and analytical.

If you wanna hear the difference between all of these earbuds, I’ve included a link to loudnwireless.com’s sound sample page, where you can compare the Buds 2 Pro to all the other earbuds we’ve reviewed at your own leisure.

Noise Cancelling

If we compare them to the popular Sony earbuds, the WF-1000XM4 and the LinkBuds S, I am going to straight up say that those earbuds are still quieter across the board. The Buds 2 Pro do let in more low frequency and mid-range frequency noise. This does mean that if you won’t have any “cabin pressure” sensation, but you are more likely to get better results dealing with traffic noise or human chatter with Sonys’s latest offerings. To get a better picture of how the Buds 2 Pro compares to the Sony earbuds, you may listen to some samples of their noise cancelling compared to these Sonys here.

Call Quality

In terms of call quality, I will rate the Buds 2 Pro’s voice pickup as above average, but not among the best. The best I’ve heard so far comes from the Sony LinkBuds S. My voice sounded clear and clean and cancels background noise extremely well, compared to the Buds 2 Pro. You can listen to the samples here.

Why should you buy Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro?

For me there are some great reasons to get the Buds 2 Pro over the others. For example, its snug, gentle fit. You don’t have to stuff them into your ears, they just sit there, sort of like the Apple AirPods Pro, but more snug and stable compared to the AirPods Pro. And compared to the Sony WF-1000XM4, I do think these are more comfortable. They also have a small, compact size. Definitely one of the smallest, most portable cases around. It also has decent noise cancelling and call quality, not the best but not bad overall either.

And if you’re a big Samsung user, just like how the AirPods Pro is to Apple products, you will also get some extra perks when you pair the Buds 2 Pro with Samsung devices. such as Seamless switching, high bit-rate streaming over Samsung’s new SSC codec, 360 audio support, and gaming mode which cuts down the latency when gaming.

But compared to the competition, they don’t have any battery life advantages. They have 5 hours of endurance in the earbuds with a total of 18 hours in the case. Right now, that is on the lower rung in terms of battery life. So you do have to charge them more often compared to the others.

And if you’re an iOS user, these are not going to be as customizable as other earbuds because of the lack of app support. Samsung’s Wearable app is not on the Apple App Store, and the Buds Plus app (that is available on the App Store) does not support these earbuds. So, no app support if you’re on iOS. Other brands like Sony, Bose, Jabra, Sennheiser, and even the Chinese brands, all have apps on both iOS and Android, so you’ll get the full app experience. Not so with the Buds 2 Pro.

But if you’re already on Samsung’s Ecosystem, and if you like the way it sounds compared to the other Samsung earbuds, the Buds 2 pro is the more natural choice.
