MAJOR iOS 18 AirPods Pro 2 Upgrades...? 🤔

So iOS 18 was just announced and we can expect 3 improvements coming to the AirPods Pro Gen 2. I’m going to give you a brief about these new features and also give you my take on them, especially about one of them which leaves me scratching my head. As soon as the update rolls out I will be testing these features on Public Beta so check back here if you don’t wanna miss my hands-on impressions. These are the key features coming to the AirPods Pro through iOS 18.

Siri Interactions

Siri Interactions on AirPods Pro’s lets you use the head tracking sensors in them for more than just tracking spatial audio objects. You can now nod your head to answer calls when Siri notifies you, or shake your head to reject. If this feature sounds familiar to you, yes it’s something that Sony has implemented in the WF-1000XM5.I did wish that it would also let me shake my head stop Siri from reading out the full freaking name of my contacts every single time AND the app they’re texting me from.

Nonetheless, it’s definitely a step in the right generation.

Voice Isolation

Voice Isolation for AirPods Pro cancels background noise for clearer calls heard on the other side of the line.

I’m a little puzzled by this one, because I’m under the impression that iOS17 already has this, and the AirPods Pro already has its own background noise reduction. So how is this different then? Will it be better than what we have now? Will we possibly see better call quality than what we already have, that would propel it to the best call quality earbuds of 2024? Stay tuned.

Personalized Spatial Audio For Gaming

On iOS 18 Personalized Spatial Audio will come to games as well, but as I understand it, not all games. Only selected ones, because developers did have to develop that into the games through the new API. For now, only Need for Speed: Mobile has been announced for it, but I wish it could have been for all gaming apps. After all, they sound more immersive in upmastered Spatial Audio instead of regular stereo.

So those are the 3 updates AirPods Pro will receive through iOS18. Not going to lie, this sounds a lot more like an incremental upgrade to the UX instead of anything game changing. But this means I’ll have to test it to get a better sense of how much of an improvement this actually is, so get subscribed to the main channel to stay notified for my take.
