New AirPods Pro 2 Firmware 6A305 CHANGED Sound Quality! 🤔

Barely a week after the previous firmware, a new one just dropped for the AirPods Pro 2 dubbed 6A305 for both lightning and USBC connector versions. No update notes from Apple this time either, so did it bring any changes to their performance in any area like their sound, noise canceling and call quality? We’ll be covering all of that here. Read on.

Sound Quality

In terms of sound quality, this time, there are changes. On the USB-C version there is a slight gain in the upper mids and treble, and the lower mids and bass. Middle mids have been pulled back a little.

It doesn’t look like a huge change, but some of you might be able to pick up a bit of extra brightness and sizzle in the mids and treble.

On the Lightning connector version it seems relatively untouched except that the mids and upper bass seem louder and fuller.

When you compare both versions together, it appears that their differences in tuning are a little less stark compared to before when they were both running 6A303. Listen to the samples.

Active Noise Canceling

In terms of active noise canceling, there is no change that I could pick up compared to the previous firmware. Have a listen to these samples recorded under loud simulated cafe background noise. Listen to the samples.

Microphone Pickup

In terms of mic pickup, I’ve tested them in both quiet and noisy conditions some wind noise from a fan, and it appears that this time, the USB-C version does not respond to background noise as quickly as the previous firmware.

This might not be an issue to people who use iPhones since they can simply switch into ‘Voice Isolation’ mode for cleaner calls to the listener. But for people who use devices from other platforms who don’t have such modes, they will have to use apps that do have some form of background noise reduction software. The Lightning version remains unchanged. Have a listen to the samples.

Conclusion

So there were some changes to sound quality, but not in other areas of both the USB-C and Lightning versions. Hopefully the next update won’t happen so soon because I’m currently swamped with review units. Could barely make time for anything. But when there are more updates that could affect their performance, I will come back with more articles like this one.
