Pixel 9 Pro Fold Beats Z Fold 6 in 5 Ways 🤔 (Review)

Here are 5 ways the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is better than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from Samsung. There’s a very good chance that most of the points I’m raising aren't even mentioned by other reviewers, especially on the audio side, which isn’t as fashionable as talking about specs and benchmarks. Still I hope this review will help you in your purchase decision.

To balance things off, I’m also going to give you 5 ways the Samsung is better. Read on:

Why The Pixel 9 Pro Fold Is Better

  1. Better Designed Form Factor

First, let’s talk about why the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is better. It's thinner and feels more premium than the Z Fold 6. It has the same premium-ness of the 9 Pro XL, with its slate metal and glass finishing. The rounded corners also makes it more grip-friendly. In contrast, although the Z fold 6 is a bit lighter, but it feels a little more industrial rather than sleek. The Pixel’s screens are also a little wider, so you don’t have to rotate the inner-screen sideways to get more screen into your videos like the Samsungs.

2. Stock Android Experience with No Bloatware

Number 2, it’s got the stock Android experience with no bloatware. It provides the purest Android experience, so you don’t have to sign in to an additional account for features that you can only use with devices from the same brand. Additionally, you will be the first to get security updates and feature drops from Google.

3. Better Inner Screen Camera (10MP vs 4MP)

Number 3, its inner screen camera is better. 10MP instead of just 4MP. Although 10MP may not be much either, but the difference becomes more stark whenever you’re using it in low light situations. There’s also a very small difference in perspective since the Pixel’s camera is located higher than the Samsung’s but most people shouldn’t be able to tell.

4. Supports More Audio Codecs

Number 4 has to do with audio. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold supports more audio codecs, which makes it more attractive choice for audiophiles. Codecs are meant to minimise data loss when transmitting audio over Bluetooth, and different headphones support various quality of codecs. The Pixel supports a wider range, including aptX HD and LC3, as well as LDAC, which supported by the Samsung. The Pixel doesn’t support SSC, that’s proprietary to Samsung devices and earbuds.

5. More Rotational Freedom

Number 5, more apps have freedom to rotate than the Samsungs. With most apps, they do rotate the same way, but on the Z Fold 6 restricts certain apps like COD Mobile to just 180 degrees, and apps like Epidemic Sound are locked to one orientation. So it’s not as consistent as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with most apps allowing full rotation which gives me more freedom. I like that.

What Are The 5 Ways The Z Fold 6 Beats The Pixel?

So what are the 5 ways the Z Fold 6 beats the Pixel?

1. Better Processor

Obviously it’s got a better processor. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is quite a powerhouse, more suitable for gaming. For instance, if you play COD Mobile, you can see in settings that it supports Max graphic quality whereas the Pixel with Tensor G4 is limited to Very High, which isn’t bad, but not for more demanding gamers.

2. Dissipates Heat Faster

In terms of thermals, both the Samsung and the Pixel are quite comparable. Since I use the cameras more than gaming, I tested them by shotting a video on them for 15 minutes, and both were just about as warm. The Samsungs were slightly warmer on the edges, but the backs of the phones were just as warm. Interestingly, is that when I stopped the video recording and let the phones to cool, the Samsungs cooled down faster. So its heat dissipation is better than the Pixels.

3. Louder Speakers

Number 3, its speakers are louder at 50% volume, and just a little louder at 100%. However, I don’t recommend playing them at 100% volume though, both of them sound terrible at that level.

4. More Custom Sound Options

Unless you customise the sound of the Samsungs, which brings me to number 4. It has more custom sound options like Dolby Atmos, global EQ presets and even a graphic EQ which you can play with. It works for the speakers as well as bluetooth audio, whereas the Pixel’s Sound Amplifier only works for headphones.

5. More Powerful Multitasking

And finally, more powerful multitasking. Aside from Split screen, the Samsung has multi-window mode which allows you to open multiple windows, similar to a desktop, with each running different apps, whereas the Pixel only does split-screen. Now, I’ll admit that multi-window isn’t ideal for reading text because the windows are smaller, but for other purposes it lets you do more on the inner screen.

Conclusion

So those are 5 ways the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is better, and 5 ways the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is better. Of course, there’s a lot more to cover. I AM making one more video about the Pixel coming soon, with in-depth testing of its camera, so if you have any questions, let me know in the comments.
