Galaxy Z Fold 6 Review after 30 days 🤔 (Best EQ Settings!)

The most important upgrade?

I’ve been using the Galaxy Z Fold 6 for about a month now, and the biggest upgrade for me is how much easier can use it one-handed. If you’re using the Fold series as your daily driver, you’ll likely find yourself using it in the folded state most of the time, rather than unfolding it - at least that’s been my experience. The Z Fold 6 is slightly skinnier and lighter, making it easier to reply to texts, do some quick googling and take pictures while it’s folded. The only times I need to unfold it are when I want to do some multitasking or watch media. In that regard, the experience isn’t that much different from previous generations, except for the fact that it feels a bit thinner and lighter.

GalaxyAI

This is why Samsung’s hyping up Galaxy AI, which is deeply integrated into the user interface alongside Google Gemini. It’s in the camera so you can auto create fun images with a tap, and you summarise search results in the internet browser, because who has time to browse through all the websites?

Personally, my favorite Galaxy AI feature is Sketch-to-Image. It’s not quite perfect yet. As an artist who creates extremely detailed, realistic drawings, I was hoping to be wowed. But Galaxy AI always ends up making my sketches look hilarious.

In terms of photography, the AI enhancement is similar to what Google does with Pixel devices, except that you can also use Sketch-to-Image on pictures you took.

Speaker Sound Quality (EQ settings)

When it comes to speaker performance, the Z Fold 6 has loud and crisp audio, which is sufficient in most situations. However, when you unfold the device and hold it vertically, the sound only comes from one side, as that’s where the speakers are located.

You’ll need to rotate the device 90 degrees to the right into landscape mode so that the speakers are on left and right channels.

By default, the speakers sound darker in the highs and brighter in the mids. But I prefer the opposite, so I adjusted the graphic EQ in settings and customised it to what I think sounds a lot better. I bumped up the lower mids and highs while cutting the midrange. Now, vocals sound more intimate, the highs are bright and airy and overall sound is smoother.

🎧 Have a listen to the sound quality samples.

Turning on Dolby Atmos adds even more airiness to the highs, making the speakers sound more spacious. I just find it interesting that you can’t customise the 68khz and 128khz bands for the speakers, unlike on the S24 Ultra. Maybe these drivers aren’t capable of producing those frequencies at all.

Camera Performance

As for the camera performance, its camera specs are pretty much identical to the previous model, so there isn’t a huge improvement in picture quality. It still has the same 50MP sensor for the rear camera, a 10MP 3x telephoto lens, and 12MP front cover camera.

You can also take selfies with the 50MP rear camera using the cover screen for framing. The main camera cleans up the shots really well in low light, brightening up darker areas effectively. But once you zoom in at 10x, 20x and 30x times, the digital crop start to get noisier.

For shooting videos, the 4MP under-screen camera works well in most situations, but they tend to get noisy in low light conditions. In contrast, the main camera will give you much cleaner and more consistent results, with well stabilised and minimal jitter under artificial lighting even when zooming in.

Should you upgrade?

While most people say that the Z Fold 6 is more of an incremental upgrade over the Fold 5, there are some concerns. Some benchmarks are saying that the Fold 6 runs a little hotter than the previous model, with throttling kicks in earlier even though the vapor chamber being 1.6x larger than the last one.

That might be true, but in my normal usage, I haven’t run into any overheating or performance drops, whether I’m gaming or multitasking.

I did experience more heat build-up when using the camera. It heats up in the middle, near the camera module, might be a concern under the hot sun, but under most situations I don’t see it becoming a problem.

One potential drawback is… how competitive this device is in the market. There are other foldables that are thinner, with competitive specs and come at more attractive pricing. Meanwhile, the Z Fold 6 has increased in price, now costing $1900 instead of $1800. It’s undeniably expensive, and without the upgrade programs, it’s a tougher pill to swallow.

However, if you’re embedded in the Samsung ecosystem, the great camara, smooth OneUI multitasking, and seamless switching using Galaxy Buds are make it worth the premium. For those of you looking for a great foldable, these features are compelling reasons to consider the Z Fold 6.
