NEW Sennheiser MTW4 Firmware 5.6.3 Improved Noise Canceling! π―
With the recent release of version 5.6.3, Sennheiser has kept us guessing by only hinting at bug fixes and improvements without providing specific details. In this article, weβll dive deep into the MTW4's core functions, including sound quality, active noise canceling, transparency, and mic pickup to reveal any hidden enhancements.
Microphone Quality Changes?
As usual, weβve tested their mic pickup in both quiet and noisy conditions, using loud cafe noise and wind noise from the fan. Compared to the previous firmware, there's not much difference. The mic still performs well in quiet settings, effectively noise gates in noisy, windy scenarios, and amplifies my voice loudly.

Active Noise Cancelling Improved?
In terms of active noise cancelling, under the same noisy conditions, the updated firmware demonstrates more intense noise-cancelling power, especially in the audible mid-range frequencies. I am genuinely impressed! While the last update enhanced noise cancelling, this update has improved it even further. At this rate, I might have to compare them again to the other premium buds, as these could very well become the new noise cancelling king. For more insights, check out the performance of MTW4 review.

Transparency Changes?
In terms of transparency, the previous firmware showed slight improvement by reducing background hiss when you're passing through ambient sounds. However, with firmware 5.6.3, there is no difference compared to the previous firmware. It retains the same minimal white noise, but this also means that there is no improvement in its transparency. It doesn't sound more transparent than the last version.
Sound Quality Improved?
In terms of sound quality, frequency sweeps show practically no changes. The little variation in the bass and mids seem to be caused by inconsistencies in how the buds were coupled to the microphones.
There is a slight increase in volume in the sub-bass frequencies, but in that area, itβs challenging to pick up any differences since below 80Hz, it is more about feeling the sub-bass vibrations in your bone structure than actually hearing them. Conclusion
It seems like improved noise canceling is the biggest difference this update brings to the table. However, if you notice any other changes not covered in this article, let me know in the comments.
