Singapore, April 23, 2025 – After announcing the pre-order period on April 9 without much clarity due to tariff policies from Donald Trump, Nintendo has now officially confirmed that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025. The release date remains unchanged on June 5.

Nintendo is one of many tech companies impacted by the Trump Tariffs, since their products are manufactured in China and Vietnam. China was originally hit with a 145 percent tariff, while Vietnam faced a 10 percent tariff. Following this, China reduced its tariff to 46 percent after Trump opened a 90-day negotiation window for countries to renegotiate their trade terms.

Even though the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its bundles will stay the same, some accessory prices will be affected by the new tariffs. The dock set will see a ten dollar increase, controller straps will cost one dollar more, and other accessories will be around five dollars more expensive.

Nintendo also shared something exciting for fans in the US. For the first time in six years, on June 5, some game retailers will be open at midnight so customers can grab the Nintendo Switch 2 the moment it launches.

Here’s the full price list provided by Nintendo:

  • Console – $449.99

  • Console + Mario Kart World Bundle – $499.99

This price change came as quite a surprise, especially considering that Nintendo has managed to keep the price of its newest console the same—even though it's being produced in China and Vietnam. As for the accessories, it's fair to say that they feel slightly more expensive than usual. Whatever happened behind the scenes, it seems like Nintendo has successfully negotiated with either the US, China, or Vietnam regarding the policy shift.
