Sonos Ace headphones leaked! 🔥

By Aaron - 7th May 2024

Thanks to a blunder by German parts site Schuurman, we now have possible pictures of the Sonos Ace headphones. It is rumored to have some kind of “hand-off” feature, letting the user transfer playback from the headphones to a Sonos Multi-room speaker network seamlessly. It seems to have an AirPods Max-ish design with premium build quality, and a generous selection of accessories. The cushions also seem to be mounted magnetically to the headphones for easy-swapping. The fact that this product was listed on Schuurman’s site (then taken down) indicates a possible imminent launch.

These headphones have been rumored since 2019, when Sonos was said to have been working on a pair of headphones that could be intergrated into the Sonos network. Those headphones were predicted to launch in 2020, but it obviously did not. Since Sonos products at that time did not support repeating Bluetooth audio through a WiFi network, that delay could possibly have been to engineer a way to do that on Sonos speakers, then miniaturizing the components required to pull off an integration into headphones.

As far as I know, integrating a WiFi module into headphones is unprecedented, and it will be interesting to see how such a combo could affect battery life, and whether the transition from Bluetooth to WiFi playback is seamless. But based on Sonos’ solid track record of great audio performance, I am confident that it will sound great at least.
